June 30 Woodside/Bridal Showers. Risk of thundershowers this afternoon. Rainfall amount to 25 millimetre. Westerly wind 30 to 50 km/h. High 17 100% POP 230° at 14 knots -2.5°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
850 m
2600 ft.
Woodside Report - rain all day, no high winds materialized and there were a few flyable periods if you didn't mind landing on wet grass.
June 29 Woodside/Bridal Sunny with cloudy periods. High 26! 0% POP 180° at 7 knots -2.5°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2550 m
8300 ft.
Woodside Report we only got one flight off Woodside before it started to blown over the back. In the mid-afternoon, Murdoch and Ernie from WA state flew a nice soaring flight and the valley was giving off lift everywhere. We made several trips up the mountain as things looked promising, but we didn't fly until 8:30 pm. Jean, Cheryl-Lee, Greg B, Colleen and I flew a nice smooth flight into Eagle Ranch.

Bridal Report - pretty much the same as Woodside, leeside. Some late flights off Lower.

June 28 Woodside/Bridal Sunny with cloudy periods. High 31! 0% POP 280° at 7 knots -2.5°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2550 m
8300 ft.
Woodside Report - we flew several students all day in the relative uncrowded sky, as everyone was at Bridal for BFAR. Only one small incident as a student launched with a tangle and failed to maintain heading and landed in some bushes below launch, no injuries to pilot or glider.

Bridal BFAR Mayhem Report - it was crowded skies and lots of fun for all as I headed to BFAR to donate tandem flights for the WCSC fund-raiser. I took my passenger off Lower Bridal after a few duffed launch attempts and we had a sweet soaring flight getting up to the Saddle and trying to stay away from the crowd soaring Lower Launch. We flew out after an hour or so and did some maneuvers (B-Stalls, Asymmetrics, Spirals) before landing in the swamp. I then took 2 other tandem passengers back to Woodside to fly, Bob was 250 lbs and no one would take him at BFAR so Colleen took him tandem and I took Arthur at Woodside as well. Mark F won longest flight award for 7:15! Graeme H won best tree landing and "horseshoe where the sun don't shine" awards, and one of Deimos guys tried to better Graeme by landing in a 100 foot tree and sticking it there!

June 27 Woodside/Bridal Sunny with cloudy periods. High 26 0% POP 280° at 19 knots -2.8°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2200 m
7100 ft.
Woodside Report - we flew many flights on Woodside until it got windy around 3:00 pm, when we took a break until 5:30 pm. Thermals were a bit raunchy at times on the south knoll, even the eagles were getting "hammered"! We had a few new students out and they did great getting ready for that first big solo flight.

Bridal Report - Alan, Mark F, Kelly, Norm, Derek K and a few others flew Bridal and the best conditions were had after 5:00 pm. I heard Alan by Butterfly around 4:00 pm, and the quote was "that it wasn't that much fun".

June 26 Woodside/Bridal Sunny with cloudy periods. High 28 0% POP 310° at 11 knots -3.1°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2200 m
7100 ft.
Fraser Valley Report - many pilots ventured out to Bridal and Woodside, but none were brave enough to test the air (it was windy until 8:00 pm).

Nicole's Excellent Adventure Report - Well yesterday at Golden it overdeveloped and didn't look like it would get better, so we all launched and got sled rides. Then it got windy later on so I headed to Lumby. This morning had a nice flight at Coopers. Went back to the lake and was thinking of flying to King Eddy but there was a strong headwind so I turned back. Got to cloudbase at 2400m and flew over to the Saddle and back to launch. Then it got shady so landed. Probably be back in Vancouver tonight! - Nicole

June 25 Bridal or Lil Nick Sunny. High 27 0% POP 290° at 14 knots -2.9°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2200 m
7100 ft.
Bridal Report - I arrived at the Landing Area to find Rob, Alan and Norm standing around while Klaus, Ian M and Ivan T were in the air. It looked pretty windy as they weren't penetrating forward and doing very little turning. Klaus landed after flying quite far out from the hill complaining that it was bumpy. Kevin A arrived and took Rob and I up the hill while the others went about their day with other projects (Norm fishing and Alan heading home). We had so-so flying logging 1+ hours and Rob got within 100 meters of Upper Launch, but the thermals were disorganized and it was a bit windy but not as bad as before. Landing was fairly easy with a few thermals off the roads - Jim

June 24 Bridal or Woodside Clearing this morning. High 25 0% POP 280° at 11 knots -3.0°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
1790 m
5800 ft.
Bridal Report - about 20 pilots flew Bridal including many that haven't been out for a while. Norm and Alan logged about 3.5 hours, both top-landing in rather strong conditions. Not much XC as it was a bit windy at altitude.

Nicole's Excellent Adventure Report - Flew Mt. 7 today with a bunch of locals. We got up to launch and the wind was south with lots of cloud and big overdevelopment, so we figured on just a sled ride. Mark F. and I launched and got high over 7, then headed downrange in a slight headwind. Cloudsuck until Parsons, then the flying got harder after that. I got low at Brisco, but caught a good thermal and continued on. We ended up getting to Spur Valley, landing at the driving range, 78 km! - Nicole

June 23 Bridal later Cloudy with afternoon sunny periods. A few showers. High 19 40% POP 300° at 9 knots -2.5°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
1190 m
3800 ft.
Bridal Report - a group met at Bridal at 3:00 pm and headed straight up. Ihor, Klaus, Rob, Kelly and Alan opted to fly Bridal even though it looked darker than Woodside due to commitments of meetings related to BFAR. Alan flew to Elk with Rob lower all the way, then flew to Laidlaw before turning around to head back towards launch. Klaus flew for the first time since his shoulder repair (snowboarding related) and logged 3 hours! Alan also logged 3 hours. At 8 pm the CU turned to towering, but everyone was on the ground by then.

Woodside Report - Norm arrived at the Ranch at 4:00 pm after work and we drove up the mountain in my Van and we had a flat tire which slowed us down a bit. We arrived at launch at 4:30 pm and launched into super cycles. We both hooked the same thermal that took us straight to cloudbase at about 1300 meters behind launch. It was rough at times, and we both had the sensation of our gliders being turned and pushed sideways by the lift regardless of what we did to the controls! After about 30 minutes I noticed the wind on Harrison River getting stronger, so I tried to top-land but it was just too strong and the cycles were not dying down. After my last approach I was lifted up by a very strong thermal and I rode it back to cloudbase where I met Norm as we headed over the back. Norm left from the towers and I headed straight back towards the highest peak on Agassiz Mountain and it was smooth all the way over with some lift to get us there higher. We arrived at the peak at about the same height and circled a bit to gain height to get to Bear Mtn, but the sun was too far north at this time so we had to fly into Harrison Beach. Alan volunteered to come and pick us up as he had already flown 3 hours at Bridal. 1:30 minutes total time, +7 m/s on the vario - Jim

June 22 Woodside later, Pemberton all day A few showers. High 17 40% POP 250° at 7 knots -2.5°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
1190 m
3800 ft.
Woodside Report - it rained most of the day at Eagle Ranch (and the rest of the mainland), clearing around 6:00 pm. It was flyable but too late to get any lift so we kept working around the Ranch.

June 21 Pemberton will be drier than the Fraser Valley A few showers. High 16 60% POP 250° at 13 knots -2.5°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
1190 m
3800 ft.
Woodside Report - it rained most of the morning, and later in the afternoon the sun came out just as we drove to a Birthday Party in Spences Bridge, so we didn't fly.

Nicole's Excellent Adventure Report - Just got back from Draper, UT where I was flying the Point. Some nice flying there every day but the locals say it has been pretty inconsistent and the north side hasn't worked in a while so we were flying the south side both am and pm. Had a nice evening flight one day on the south side...nobody else was there so I had the whole place to myself to watch the sun set and the city lights come on. Went to Inspo one day but was too windy and cross. Nice XC potential though! Now back in Sun Valley and just got back from a nice flight off Baldy. Got to 3300m and it was very windy and cold! Will fly there again early this evening or maybe go to Sky Ridge depending on the winds - Nicole

June 20 Woodside A few showers. High 17 30% POP 230° at 9 knots -2.5°/1000'

Woodside Report - no reports but the weather looked fabulous for some thermalling, nice CU forming on the North Shore with light winds.
June 18 Woodside Increasing cloudiness. 40 percent chance of showers. High 21 0% POP 260° at 12 knots -2.8°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)

Woodside Report - NOAA looked good for Abbotsford for the afternoon, the forecast rain never happened.

(unstable lapse rate)
1400 m
4553 ft.
Woodside Report - Thomm and Andy had a sled ride around 1:30 pm, super smooth and no lift at all.

Bridal Report - Thomm and Andy headed to Bridal to meet Derek K. Another group with Derek T hiked to Upper Launch and did manuevers all the way to the ground instead of soaring. Derek K launched a bit early and had 30 minutes, while Thomm and Ivan T battled it out for 2+ hours. Derek, Joseph and I flew after 6:00 pm and stayed in the air a little over 30 minutes.

June 16 Bridal Sunny with cloudy periods. High 24 0% POP light and variable to 6000 feet! -2.9°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
1400 m
4553 ft.
Nicole's Excellent Adventure Report - Today went up to Sun Peak launch again. Very cross winds from the south but we got off and benched up to the summit. I went over the back and headed west up the valley, went about 14 km before landing due to increasing winds. Later on a bunch of us went to a ridge-soaring site called Sky Ridge; launch is about 2000' AGL with ~1 km of south-facing ridge to play about on. We stayed up until the sun dropped below the mountains, about 9:30pm - Nicole

Derek's Bridal Report - "It gets to bloody crowded with 12 gliders on the ridge at Lower Launch, so I went to the bowl and climbed out there".
June 15 Woodside A few showers ending near noon then clearing. High 22 40% POP light and variable to 9000 feet! -3.1°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
1400 m
4553 ft.
Woodside Report - another great day at Woodside! We launched Colleen at 10:00 am and she soared well above launch for an hour before she landed to guide some students. It just got better all day. Kelly logged nearly 3 hours sky'ing out the guys. I managed a flight on the Fiesta Light hiker glider, getting well above the towers and the HGers. Lots of HGers out today. Ali (HGer) crashed on landing at the old LZ and was carted off in an ambulance as Colleen drove to Chilliwack at 2:15 pm. Our students did very well logging 10 flights & tandem in three days. They also soared well above launch in the smoothest lift we have seen all year. Jeffrey launched late on the Fiesta Light and was climbing very fast and had a good 45 minute flight getting in lots of exercises and landing safely in Eagle Ranch.

Bridal Report - Norm flew from Bridal to Laidlaw and Alan and Fedja flew from Bridal to the Hope airport. This is Allan and Fedja's first time to Hope from Bridal. A sail plane pilot picked them up and took them back to Bridal - Bev

Nicole's Idaho Adventure - Headed up to a site called Sun Peak, a hike-up site about 900' AGL. Abe and I launched into strong cycles and quickly made it to the top of the peak. Very strong lift (8-9m/s) and very active air! We hadn't planned on going XC (no flight suits, no GPS's, no gloves, etc.) but the air was so good we decided to head downrange a bit. Got up to about 9700' and got as far as the canyon when a big storm cell was approaching, so we landed on the highway to avoid any gust fronts. Nice to be able to go XC from such a little site! - Nicole

June 14 Woodside/ Lil Nick if it gets windy Cloudy. A few showers. High 18 20% POP 190° at 12 knots -2.7°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
775 m
2500 ft.
Woodside Report - another great day at Woodside for experts and students! We started flying students at 10:00 am, with Max, Chris, Barry and Garry getting three flights each. Barry went for an additional flight when we went to lunch with Kelly guiding him off the mountain. Norm and Rob got 45 minute soaring flight with Rob top-landing to retrieve his Suzuki. Colleen flew and was way up at cloudbase before flying out to land the students who also got some soaring practice. We ended the day at 5:30 pm for the students and I went paramotoring for a few hours. Sunday promises to be just as good - Jim

Sun Valley Report - Got to Sun Valley, Idaho, late last night with Abe and Jamie, tandem pilots I met at Tiger last weekend. Went up the mountain this morning (launch is 9010' ASL) but was already blown out (post-frontal) and the tandems were having a hard time launching! The locals say tomorrow may be better (less windy) and we may go back up this evening for a flight if the wind dies. Terrain is similar to the Okanagan, but with higher peaks like Golden. Cloudbase today was about 13,000'! - Nicole

June 13 Woodside later Rain ending this morning then cloudy with sunny periods and a few showers. Risk of thundershowers this afternoon. High 18 40% POP 200° at 12 knots -2.9°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
775 m
2500 ft.
Woodside Report - new students Chris and Max arrived right on time at 9:00 am, and it started raining. We went through the mandatory ground school lecture for two hours and when we came out of the classroom, the sun was out! Colleen and I took the new guys tandem and had a nice 40 minute soaring flight into Eagle Ranch. It looked like the weather was going to hold so we went to lunch and it started raining while we were eating. After an hour or so we were able to get out kiting in the field and the guys did very well. It was 15-20 km in the LZ. Kelly and Derek went up the mountain to fly while we kited and they eventually got in the air after much debate and they had a great soaring flight getting way above launch, landing conditions were a bit sinky on final it was reported.

Colleen, the students and I headed up to launch just around 6:00 pm and Colleen reported smooth air into Eagle Ranch, so Max launched and encountered strong headwinds which demanded his attention to keep pointed the right direction into Eagle Ranch, but he had a soft touchdown for his first flight.

Sometimes the weatherman is right!

June 12 Stay Home Sunny at first then increasing cloudiness with 70 percent chance of showers beginning this afternoon. Windy at times. High 22 70% POP 270° at 15 knots -2.9°/1000'
(stable lapse rate)
775 m
2500 ft.
Fraser Valley Report - too windy to fly according to Derek who was logging at Eagle Ranch, as we are clearing the trees from the north approach into the Ranch. Thanks Derek!

June 11 Bridal later Cloudy with sunny periods. High 20 30% POP 250° at 5 knots -2.1°/1000'
(stable lapse rate)
975 m
3000 ft.
Fraser Valley Report - Mark F flew Bridal and got an hour; Derek, Alan, Kevin A, Brad, Daryl S all logged 1.5 hours at Woodside in soarable conditions not getting high but having fun all the same landing after 7:00 pm.

Grouse Report - Headed up to Grouse as the Valley didn't look like it was going to clear out. Cloudbase was low (the peak was still in clouds) and there was east wind and the helicopter wasn't there so I launched from the Cut. Nice light lift out front courtesy of cloud suck so I headed out towards the highway then back towards the mountain a few times until the clouds began to thicken, then headed out to land. No turbulence in the LZ which was a nice change! - Nicole

June 10 Woodside later Cloudy with afternoon sunny periods. 60 percent chance of showers. High 20 60% POP 280° at 6 knots -2.3°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
975 m
3000 ft.
No pireps from the Valley, Abbotsford NOAA looked good though.

June 9 Bridal later A mix of sun and cloud. 60 percent chance of showers mainly over eastern sections. High 23. 60% POP 280° at 13 knots -2.5°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
975 m
3000 ft.
Valley Report - Headed back from Tiger this morning and looked good up north so headed to the Valley. Went to Woodside first but was blown out so went for a quick dip in the swoop pond, then headed over to Bridal. Was quite windy there as well; Rob launched and reported very strong conditions so we decided to head down and kite at the Rosedale school. After a while it looked good so we headed back up again. Mark, Derek, and I launched and flew in ridge lift for ~1 hour until the wind died off around 8pm - Nicole

June 8 Woodside early, Bridal later Sunny. High 28 0% POP light and variable 'til 2:00 pm -3.0°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2290 m
7100 ft.
Woodside Report - Jeffery had his first solo flight and we found him a nice smooth thermal to take up to launch height. After that it was too windy for solo student flights so we went tandem and after Colleen warned Norm and I that it was gusting 25-30 kms on the ground we headed over the back towards Agassiz. Then we headed to Bridal. When we left there were several HGers soaring, not getting too high though.

Bridal Report - Jeffery and I went tandem wind dummying for the 20+ pilots on launch. I flew for a while until I noticed a carabiner had flipped sideways and was loaded improperly (a steel one),so I decided we should get down to fix it as there was very strong lift around launch. We made a couple of passes then top-landed after the cycles died down, and watched a few pilots throw themselves in the air before flying again. Lots of pilots topped out over upper launch.

Nicole's Road Trip Report - A bunch of us decided to go to a new site near Liberty which has only been flown a few times. Got there and was blown out so we went to Saddle Mtn. instead. Blown out there too and very hot, so we all took a quick dip in the river (cold!) and headed back to Tiger. Got there in just as the wind was dying down, so we went up and had 1 hour+ flights, getting above the towers. Looks like a pretty consistent site, works until dusk, similar to Bridal - Nicole

June 7 Woodside early, Bridal later Sunny. High 34! 0% POP 280° at 8 knots -3.0°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2290 m
7100 ft.
Woodside Report - we flew a bunch of student flights before 2:00 pm when it got too strong for experienced pilots. We met up with Evelyn at launch after 7:30 pm and we heard about her getting blown over the back and having to swim back in the Harrison, before getting picked up by a boat. Her glider is still in a tree and I am going to try to get a fix on it with the paramotor this AM.

Tiger Mtn. WA Report - Came to Tiger Mtn for the fly-in, fly a new site, and meet new people. Day started off badly with a new P2 spinning in on final (wingtip caught a tree branch) resulting in fractured tib/fib, so we were all extra careful when doing our approaches! Other than that, an excellent day with lots of flights by all; the shuttle up to launch is the coolest I have seen, we had 28 people in there one time! I demo'd a couple of gliders (Sport and Aspen) and ended up with 3-4 hours airtime total. Excellent launch site; there are 3 directions and all are nicely groomed and carpeted. The day ended with an Acro show by a couple of the local guys, followed by a video show of the day's events. Tomorrow maybe hook up with some guys to fly a new site in Yakima! - Nicole
June 6 Bridal later Sunny. High 34! 0% POP 280° at 8 knots -3.0°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2290 m
7100 ft.
Bridal Report - Mark F and Alan got above Cheam but could not get any further east. Bridal has been extremely good for lift with pilots flying the circuit from Elk Mtn. to Butterfly east halfway to Hope.

Grouse Report - Decided to head up to Grouse for a change. Met Alex at the LZ; he had just landed and reported soarable conditions but he had to leave. No truck yet to take us to launch :( so hiked up the front (very hot!) and nice cycles coming in. Saw a couple HG's on their way up hiking their gliders so went back down to help carry them up (Mark D. and Jeff R., with Graeme). We all launched into nice air at first then the thermals became ratty and disorganized, and the cirrus was cutting our sun, so we all landed after about 1 hour. Miguel and Steve H. also showed up and joined us. The snow is gone from the launch so no more wet gliders! - Nicole

June 5 Bridal/Woodside Sunny. High 32! 0% POP 300° at 13 knots -2.8°/1000'
(unstable lapse rate)
2290 m
7100 ft.
Woodside Report - Ian Mitchell launched in nice straight cycles but unfortunately it was all North Wind and he barely made the bailout. His quote "OK Jim I know you're gonna post something anyway but if you need a quote from the horses mouth........"I launched, I shat, I landed". This after some interesting aerobatics in the rotor! - Ian

Bridal Report - you may already have heard but . . . while we were flying Bridal late last night Rob S was above upper Bridal Launch at 1580 meters when he spotted the missing Cessna jump-plane about 200 meters west of launch! After calming down enough to mark the GPS coordinates Rob thru Ian J relayed messages to Search and Rescue to get a team on the mountain before dark. Even with exact coordinates the spotters could not see the wreckage. Rob deserves a big vote of thanks for this one!

Crash site located west of Chilliwack

from canada.com

Friday, June 06, 2003

Abbotsford pilot Craig Turner, 22, has not been positively identified as the pilot found at the crash site.(Global BC)

CHILLIWACK -- Military officials say a Fraser Valley crash site has been located -- and the pilot has been found dead.

The plane was spotted last night by a paraglider in thick forest six kilometres west of the Chilliwack airport, at an altitude of more than 1,300 metres.

Two military search and rescue technicians were guided to the wreckage by the paraglider.

The plane was the same type as one piloted by 22-year-old Craig Turner, who vanished on Saturday after dropping off a group of skydivers.

Search officials say the crash site had been covered several times but remained invisible to aircraft because of the thickness of the tree canopy and angle of the terrain.

RCMP investigators will be at the site today.

Positive identification of the crash victim has not yet been made.

Bridal Report - I invited the Bellingham pilots to come up and fly Bridal, so we all met at the LZ at 3pm, along with all the regulars. Great leeside conditions later in the day; Mark F. flew to the Cultus Lake waterslides and got a ride back with Derek and went up for another flight. Rob, Doug Beer, Robin, and I flew East past Cheam and onwards to the Lakes; on the way back the inflow had finally kicked in so it was upwind both there and back! Sweet lift all around and several of us top-landed to drive down the vehicles, then dinner at the WildCat (no Alan sightings there this time though :) - Nicole

Lost and Found Report - a kind soul turned in the lost Edel Bag yesterday at the RCMP in Agassiz. I guess they didn't like the way it handled otherwise we would have gotten it back a few days earlier? - Jim

Grouse Report - First flight at the ole local mountain (this year), and I must say some things never change. I`m sure you will get postings from others that flew there today but it was business as usual. Punchy 5m/s over the gully some East component coming over the lower cut and switchy in the l.z. BIG sink over the road and games on in both fields so sidehill landings. Others that flew after us felt it mellowed out considerably . . . so overall a good day - Thomm

Wild Cat Grill Report - In a never before seen incident Alan D was spotted eating a caesar salad and chicken burger! Shares in restaurants in Rosedale went up overnight! It may be due in part to the fact that Alex, Mark F, Rob and Nicole bought his dinner for retrieving them from Hope Airport. They flew from Bridal Lower Launch and Alex made it to Hope Motn. before turning around to fight the headwind into the airport. Nicole has to pay an outlanding fee to the CPR, more on that later :-)

Woodside Report - Joseph arrived late and headed up to Woodside Launch after looking through the binoculars. Despite wind warnings an un-named lone instructor (without an assistant) was seen "hucking a student" off Woodside late yesterday, the student was parked for an hour trying to penetrate to Riverside. It was all of 13 knots and gusty, so Joseph drove back down before dark. Fortunately the student made it out to Riverside before dark.

June 2 Lil Nick Cloudy with sunny periods. 40 percent chance of showers this morning. High 23 40% POP 290° at 16 knots -2.8°/1000'

Bridal Report - Rob S called me to report flying at Bridal was exciting and quite nice. Mark F launched first into a 6 m/s thermal that took him towards Cheam, and on past the Scales on Hwy 1. A bit hard to penetrate back as the wind layer below 1300 meters was very strong, and he landed near Laidlaw. Rob flew on to Elk upwind and had to stay out of the way of Search and Rescue choppers and aircraft but there were no conflicts. Still no sign of the missing pilot and aircraft from the Chilliwack Drop Zone.

Derek and Alan were also out and had great flying above 1300 meters. The reason I called Lil Nick was due to the forecast high winds at 3000 feet, but apparently the thermals blocked the winds at Bridal. Good call to head there as Alan is at the base and monitors the windsock at launch frequently.

Lost and Found - we lost one Edel Backpack, light green and grey with a yellow Edel Quantum in it last Sunday between Eagle Ranch and Woodside Launch. If you are flying at Woodside please look down as you fly out to see if you see it in the ditches or weeds by the road. We walked the entire highway and road up to launch but couldn't find it so it may have been picked up on the highway. Lesson learned - always secure the pack with the hip straps to the vehicle and bungie through the shoulder straps in case a pack gets dislodged. It is the first glider we have lost in 8 years, and who knows how many trips up the mountain but it would be nice to get it back.

Woodside Report - some good student flights early in the day before the wind picked up. Some brave (or foolhardy?) PG pilots flew later but it didn't look fun being parked for 2 hours before landing in turbulent conditions in the Best Field. Tyler and Bernard flew their topless HGs and seemed to penetrate fine, and they even landed without any bent aluminum! But they looked a little frightened afterwards.

Eagle Ranch LZ reminder - the field has been cut for baling and it will be a bit thermic mid-day, slow down your gliders on approach and be an active pilot . . . and be patient if you get lifted up on final.

Lost and Found Reminder - there is a missing Yellow Edel Quantum Paraglider in a Green and Grey Edel Backpack, with SupAir Harness somewhere between Eagle Ranch and Woodside Launch. Reward is offered for a safe return - call 604-618-5467 if you have information.

Woodside Report - what a great day at Woodside! It started out with low cloudbase and strong cycles at launch, so I took a new student tandem and we had a one hour flight climbing 500 feet above launch and soaring all over the mountain. Gerry L flew with us and had his first soaring flight!

From that flight it just got better. The 3 new students we had + Daisy tested the new training hill and developed some great launch skills before heading up the mountain to fly. Kelly, Brent L, and I had a nice thermalling flight around 1:00 pm, before the students could fly.

Then we got all the new students in the air. Most got 3 flights, and launch and landing conditions were excellent with some mild thermals for them to get extended flights.

May 2003 Site of the Day archives not a great weather month on the coast, especially on the weekends but a few pilots managed to get some great airtime at Bridal. The Nationals were held in Lumby and it didn't rain!

Colleen placed 5th place at the Canadian PG Nationals in rainy Lumby!
