August 24 Woodside/Bridal Sunny in the PM. High 26. 0% P.O.P. 200 @ 6 knots at 3000 feet better for Woodside until later when Bridal should turn on Woodside Report Norm, Dad and I went over to Woodside, the LZ winds were about 10 kms, so we went on up, it was stronger at launch but launchable. Norm was our wind dummy and went off beautifully and got 1 and a half hours soaring, Dad launched and flew out. The winds picked up at the LZ, I launched along with two other visitors I didn't know, I had some nice flying 'til I reached the ridge I got whacked real hard but controlled the wing, I had no penetration what so ever and had to go on to speedbar, I drifted a bit while not penetrating to the back which was fine as I let myself get there, speedbarred over the hay field closest to the mountain and landed, hovered actually and came down very gently. The winds picked up to about 20 to 25 km strength. My strongest conditions yet for me, and I normally would not have launched in that but once in flight it was too late as the winds picked up while in flight grrr, but it was manageable for all that flew, and we all landed safely. (You might want to edit this novel heehee) - Bev Lawlor Grouse Report - Grouse was as usual not what it appeared from a distance. The cu's above were moving west but the peak was wind still with nice cycles coming up. Mark was up over the base of the Cut for almost an hour, and I had about ten minutes of smooth lift over the Peak before it started to shut down.
